How do I know if a pearl necklace is good or not?
I'm wanting to buy a pearl necklace for my girlfriends 21st birthday, but I have no idea what would be the best I can get for around £150 - £200? Like what quality etc. I can expect for that price?
I didn't mean how to check if they're real, I meant like how many karat I can expect for that price etc.
It's not so much the carat you can get for that price. It's more the quality. You will look for Freshwater Pearls, but quite a good quality with next to no blemishes and good lustre. If you go for white ones, you can expect near white for that price, also just about round and maybe 8 or so mm in diameter, plus a sterling or gold clasp. I would also look for a necklace that has knots between the pearls.
On the other hand, it's quite a classic present for a 21st birthday.
